Corporate Philanthropy

Tyco has established policies to govern its Corporate Citizenship and Philanthropy programs. These policies help to ensure integrity, accountability, fairness and consistency, and place reasonable but necessary controls on the allocation of financial resources.

What Tyco can support:

  • Organizations located in the United States or one of its possessions recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as tax-exempt and designated a public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code and designated as: (i) a ‘Public Charity’ under either Section 509(a)(1) or Section 509(a)(2) of the IRS Code or (ii) an instrumentality of a federal, state or local government as provided by Section 170(c)(1) of the Code. Eligible organizations include, but are not limited to: colleges and universities, private and public elementary and secondary schools, civic, arts and culture, health and human service agencies and environmental organizations.
  • Organizations outside the US that provide written proof of their official status as charitable, tax-exempt entities.
  • Gifts to eligible organizations from Tyco employees are matched, dollar for dollar, by Tyco.
  • Proposals shall be responsive to Tyco’s strategic portfolio, or to calls for proposals issued by corporate, business segments or operating units. Unsolicited proposals for funding will generally not be accepted.
  • In general, Tyco will not entertain proposals that specifically replace government funds.

What Tyco cannot support:

  • Organizations or programs whose goals are primarily religious or political in nature.
  • Requests for grants to individuals.

Requirements of Grant Applicants:

  • All grant applicants must provide a copy of their letter of determination from the Internal Revenue Service granting them status as a 501c3 tax-exempt organization (or the equivalent for applicants outside the United States).
  • All grant applicants must provide a copy of their articles of incorporation or basic governing document, list of board of directors, the most recent audited financial statements, an annual report and a copy of their IRS Form 990.
  • Grant applicants must have a conflict of interest policy and disclosure statement enacted by its board of directors.
