Corporate Philanthropy and Tyco's Responsibility to Community

As a global corporate citizen, Tyco invests in sustainable change where our employees live and work, and in developing countries where we can make a meaningful difference. Our philanthropy program resonates with our ethics, values and culture – it’s the right thing to do. But when we touch communities through our philanthropic and volunteer investment we also add value for our businesses, employees, shareholders and stakeholders.

Tyco has focused most of its philanthropy in three focus areas that are critical to its stakeholders and communities around the world: Life Safety, Youth Achievement and Environment.

Life Safety:
Tyco’s Life Safety initiatives protect the health, security and well-being of our most vulnerable communities and citizens. Through education, advocacy and support of first responders Tyco programs are reducing home-related injuries – in particular, burns suffered by small children and the elderly. Our programs also address domestic violence, and offer humanitarian relief for areas struck by natural disasters. Tyco’s Security Solutions and Fire Protection businesses have developed partnerships with organizations that address fire and burn prevention, home and family safety, and domestic violence. Tyco’s Life Safety partners include the Home Safety Council, American Red Cross, National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, the Burn Foundation and the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors.

Youth Achievement:
Tyco is committed to inspiring youth to reach their full potential in their community, school, and career. Through corporate grants and employee volunteerism Tyco helps under-served youths build skills critical to their success, and provides opportunities to pursue and attain educational and career goals. Our strategic partnerships with community organizations, schools and universities help to create pathway to success for under-served youth. Our partners near our corporate offices in Princeton, NJ, such as the Boys & Girls Clubs, Big Brothers Big Sisters, 4H, Junior Achievement and Rutgers University help us have impact at a grassroots level. Our international reach extends to Jiao Tong University (Shanghai), which is a close partner with our Center of Excellence there, and the ADT Teach program in South Africa.

Environment and Clean Water:
Protection and preservation of the environment is a core component of Tyco’s citizenship programs. Along with our commitment to environmental sustainability in our operating locations, we have placed special emphasis on addressing the global demand for clean water. We have supported programs that are critical to the supply of water for drinking, sanitation, economic development and wildlife. Action Against Hunger (ACF) has worked with Tyco to provide clean water as part of humanitarian relief efforts in locations such as Haiti and Pakistan. The Tyco-ACF Clean Water Access Initiative is a three-year partnership that will employ Tyco resources – people, products and funding
to increase access to drinking water and sanitation in developing countries. The Nature Conservancy and Earthwatch Institute have been capable partners bringing value to the cause through research, education and citizen involvement in conservation programs.
