The Kwikstrut business within Tyco Fire Protection Products (TFPP) has launched a line of products in the Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA) market with a future that can only be described as “sunny.”
The Kwikstrut team now offers framing and support solutions for photovoltaic solar panel applications. The Kwikstrut products can be fitted more quickly than traditional mountings, reducing the time and installers required on site. Preassembled and lightweight bolts, nuts and washers in the fittings can be fitted single-handedly.
The product line was developed in response to market growth in the renewable energy industries across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. In Southern Europe, the solar market is particularly strong, with photovoltaic cells common on industrial and domestic buildings alike.
Government subsidies, sparked by efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, are responsible for much of the growth in the solar market, but the European Photovoltaic Industry Association says solar energy has the potential to become price competitive with grid electricity in some markets as early as 2013. On a continent-wide base, the European Union is aiming for a 20% rise in the market share of all renewable energy by 2020.
Kwikstrut products are designed for use in a variety of locations to suit different requirements, such as large solar fields or industrial sites. The framing and supports are corrosion-resistant and can withstand snow, wind and both high and low temperatures. The system requires no welding, and the frames and mounts can be disassembled and reassembled quickly and easily if required.
To meet client requirements and industrial standards for photovoltaic support systems, Tyco offers computer-aided design drawings and mechanical design services to ensure that Kwikstrut products are applied in the best possible manner.
