Scott Safety Makes Presence Felt at World Police & Fire Games

The games attracted more than 18,000 male and female firefighters and police officers from around the world for participation in some 60 events, including many Olympic team and individual sports and several firefighter-specific competitions.

“As a ‘founding partner’ of the games, we had a significant presence at the event,” says Luka Lojk, director of global marketing, Scott Safety. “We had tremendous brand presence at each venue, most notably at the Scott Safety Sports Arena, the primary venue for indoor sports.”

Scott used the games as an opportunity to launch its new lightweight, high-pressure Air-Pak® cylinders, and these were used by competitors in the ultimate firefighter competition to provide an authentic demonstration of their comfort and reduced weight. Scott Air-Pak® SCBAs (self-contained breathing apparatus) also were featured in the stair race, where more than 200 firefighters wearing full gear climbed 43 stories of the 7 World Trade Center building. Scott employees supporting the company’s sponsorship came from around the globe, and their geographic diversity matched that of the game participants.

“Since more than two-thirds of the competitors were from outside of the United States, the games represented a tremendous opportunity for us to build relationships with our international customer base,” says Lojk.

During the event, Scott and SimplexGrinnell, another business unit within Tyco Fire Protection, also partnered to raise thousands of dollars for the FDNY Burn Center Foundation through the sale of patches commemorating the 10-year anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States.
