Scott Safety Major Sponsor of World Police & Fire Games August 26 to September 5 in New York
The 2011 edition of the World Police & Fire Games, considered the second largest multi-sport event in the world, will open on August 26 and run through September 5 at various New York City locations.
Scott Safety, a business unit within Tyco Fire Protection, is a major sponsor of the 2011 World Police & Fire Games, which is surpassed in scope by only the Summer Olympics.
The games will feature more than 18,000 male and female firefighters and police officers and firefighters representing more than 70 countries. They will compete in 69 events at 40 venues with the assistance of 7,500 volunteers.
Scott manufactures the Scott Air-Pak® SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) and many other products that protect and assist thousands of firefighters and police around the world.
Several of the events are familiar to Summer Olympics fans, including basketball, boxing, decathlon, soccer, swimming and track and field. Other events are profession-specific, such as police service dog and firefighter muster.
Recognizing the benefits of healthy competition, the games have been held biennially since 1985 in different cities around the globe. This marks the first time the event has been held in New York.

About the World Police & Fire Games
The 2011 World Police & Fire Games and Memorial Inc. has been given the honor, privilege, and the responsibility to produce these World Police & Fire Games. Consisting of New York City Police Officers and Firefighters, the organization was responsible for preparing, presenting, and winning the bid to host this unprecedented event.
