Life Safety Key Programs

Tyco’s Security Solutions and Fire Protection businesses have developed partnerships to reduce the incidents of home fires and burns, and to promote home and family safety.

Humanitarian Relief
Through corporate support and employee contributions, Tyco has been part of disaster relief efforts around the world. Our support of the American Red Cross and the International Red Cross, which play key roles whenever and wherever disasters strike, provides immediate assistance to affected communities. We also identify effective, local organizations already at work at the disaster site, for funding from Tyco and its individual businesses. Tyco employees have consistently provided generous support to humanitarian relief efforts around the globe through Tyco’s Matching Gifts program.

Making Homes Safer for Young Children
Each year, thousands of young children are injured or killed from accidents in the home that could be prevented. Tyco is a key sponsor of Start Safe a national program to educate pre-school-aged children and their caregivers about fire and burn safety. Start Safe is a partnership involving Safe Kids Worldwide, Head Start and the fire service. With Tyco’s support, the program was launched at a dozen pilot sites in the U.S., and the curriculum has been distributed to thousands of child care centers and fire departments.

Burn Prevention Advocacy
Tyco’s partnerships with the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors and the Burn Foundation engage burn survivor advocates, burn care professionals, educators and the fire service to reduce the prevalence of burns. By connecting these stakeholders in grassroots advocacy, The Phoenix Society has helped to bring about stronger fire and building codes, and improve services to burn survivors and their families. The Burn Foundation delivers burn prevention education to under-served populations, with an emphasis on children and the elderly – those most at risk of becoming victims.

Support for First Responders
Through its involvement with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, Tyco supports families of first responders who have lost their lives in the line of duty. These families become part of support networks that help to heal their loss through grief therapy, healing and wellness programs. Survivors also participate in programs to educate the public and policy makers about practical yet critical measures that can help ensure the safety of our families and the first responders who serve to protect us.

Developing the Next Generation of Firefighters
Tyco is working with the National Volunteer Fire Council’s Junior Firefighter program to attract and retain youths in the fire service. The partnership has engaged Tyco’s Scott Safety in Monroe, NC, which hosted one of NVFC’s Junior academies. The program involved Tyco employees in a hands-on academy for 50 junior firefighters and 30 program advisors. The academy consisted of classroom sessions, product demos, a facility tour, and hands-on training drills.
