Fundo Carioca - Tyco’s partnership with the Brazil Foundation - in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, seeks to provide disadvantaged youths an opportunity to gain the skills necessary for a successful career in the electronic security field, a growing industry in the country.
Over 90 young people between the ages of 17 and 24 have enrolled in the program. Students attend classes 3 days a week to receive technical training on IT, Access Control, CCTV and Intrusion Detection.
“Tyco’s vocational training partnership with the Brazil Foundation opens horizons not previously imagined,” says Leona Forman, Chairman of the Board for the Brazil Foundation. “The six month training program designed by Tyco managers and staff, coupled with introductions to their customers -- provides opportunities in a growing field.”
The program also focuses on other activities related to the work world, such as resume writing and career planning, meetings with integrators, prospective employers, and referrals for the labor market. To effectively support the young people enrolled, English classes and a stipend are also offered.
