Decreasing the Number of Fire Related Injuries

The Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors

Tyco’s partnership with the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors grew out of the shared value that no person should be harmed or perish from a preventable burn or fire-related injury.

No person should be harmed or perish from a preventable burn or fire-related injury.

“The Phoenix Society and Tyco are committed to ensuring that every burn survivor, their loved ones, and caregivers have the necessary support on their road to recovery” said Amy Acton, CEO of the Phoenix Society.

Every year in the U.S. alone, more than a million people suffer burn injuries and there are more than 45,000 hospitalizations – half in specialized burn centers. About one-third of these hospitalizations involve children.

Through Phoenix Society’s programs, trained advocates and institutional partners (such as fire services) from around the U.S. support initiatives at the local, state and federal levels to advance fire protection measures. This grassroots advocacy engages burn survivors committed to influencing positive changes in their lives, their communities and in their respective governments by making their personal stories and opinions known.

“We have a lot in common with the folks at Phoenix Society. At Tyco, we strive to protect what matters most. Our employees take great pride in knowing that they make a difference in the world by helping to safeguard people”, said Kelly Philson, Tyco’s Director of Public Affairs Corporate Social Responsibility.
